NeighborWorks Montana is a nonprofit organization that creates housing opportunities across Montana.
As an anchor institution, Intermountain Health believes in intentional business decision-making to improve the health of our communities as we consider hiring, investing, caregiver volunteerism, and environmental sustainability. It’s why in 2024, Intermountain provided investment capital of $4 million to NeighborWorks Montana (NWMT).
With the funding, NeighborWorks has supported a number of projects in Yellowstone County including:
- Laurel Depot, 24 new units located in Laurel targeted for low-income households
- Fraser Tower, an affordable housing project for seniors in Billings
- YWCA Billings Horizons Shelter, a new shelter to support people experiencing homelessness and mothers and families experiencing domestic violence
“Housing is one non-medical factor that can impact a person’s ability to live a healthy life,” said Nick Fritz, director of Place Based Investments for Intermountain. “These investments align with our mission so well and helps us move upstream to address a social determinant of health.”
Established in 1998, NWMT is a leader in housing education and counseling, an innovator in single-family lending, a trusted source of gap financing for developers, and a champion of self-sufficiency for residents in manufactured home parks.
Intermountain’s investments focus on a few key social determinants: housing stability, employment, and financial wellness. To learn more about our efforts, visit the Place Based Investing site.
