What to expect during your first visit

During the initial assessment, you will meet with our team for a thorough skills assessment and intake. The authorization process and request for ABA services will be initiated after the initial assessment and frequency of medically necessary treatment is determined. The authorization process can take 1-4 weeks. Once approved by your insurance carrier, a provider will reach out to schedule ongoing ABA services.

Assessment: During the initial assessment, you and your will meet with our team for a thorough skills assessment and intake. Your child will be formally assessed by a member of our provider team upon entering ABA and at specified intervals following initiating treatment (typically every 3 or 6 months, depending on insurance provider). During the initial assessment, the provider will complete an interview with caregivers while an RBT completes a skills assessment with your child in a separate area within the ABA Clinic.

Please plan on the initial assessment lasting anywhere between 2-4 hours in length. This assessment will help the provider determine the appropriate frequency of medically necessary ABA services for your child. Typical frequency multiple days per week, and last half or full days.

After the initial assessment, our team will reach out to your insurance plan for authorization for your child’s individual plan for ongoing ABA services. The authorization process can take 1-4 weeks. Once approved by your insurance plan, a provider will reach out to schedule ongoing ABA services.

Follow-up visits

Treatment planning: Following initial and reassessments, your child’s provider will analyze results, update treatment progress (for reassessments), and select new treatment goals in collaboration with you. Aside from formal assessments, providers will continually monitor progress towards treatment goals and response to treatment and update treatment goals as needed.

ABA implementation: Treatment plan execution occurs with an RBT in 1:1 setting or Group ABA sessions and includes skill acquisition programs, and behavior reduction programs. Continuous data is collected and analyzed throughout every session to determine the success and continuous improvement of the behavior plan.

Supervision: Aligned with quality standards, your child’s provider will supervise 10-20% of your child’s time in ABA, focusing on both RBT oversight and monitoring progress or adjusting treatment protocols for your child.

Family guidance: Caregivers should plan to engage in parent training sessions every month at a minimum. These trainings are spent reviewing the treatment plan, reviewing progress and assessment results, and engaging in training surrounding principles and concepts of ABA that may assist with generalization of skills to outside environments. Family guidance equips caregivers with the knowledge and skills to support their child’s progress and sustain behavior change beyond the clinic setting.
