The Intermountain Health Medical Assistant (MA) Apprenticeship program is a 10 month-long, full-time, paid Apprenticeship training program. Medical Assistants are trained professionals who prepare patients for exams, take medical histories, and perform basic lab tests. Medical Assistants provide a caring, comfortable, and confidential environment for their patients while also supporting the provider.

Intermountain Health’s MA Apprenticeship Program has 3 months of classroom instruction and 7 months of on-the-job learning, under the supervision of a preceptor (trainer), at an Intermountain Health clinic.

Education topics will include anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, medication math, pharmacology, clinical skills, and administrative skills. Apprentices will receive a full-time competitive salary and benefit package, including health and education benefits upon hire date as an Apprentice.

After successful completion of the program, the Apprentice will interview for a permanent Medical Assistant role with Intermountain Health. As part of the program, apprentices will also sit for the nationally-recognized Medical Assistant examination and receive credentials of CCMA after passing examination.

MA Apprenticeship candidates need to be 18 years of age, require a high school diploma or GED, proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing), exemplary customer service skills, and embody the Intermountain values of integrity, trust, excellence, accountability, mutual respect, and safety.

This program is open to current Intermountain caregivers in good standing and to external candidates. The program offers 3 cohorts annually in each location and serves up to 10 Apprentices per cohort. The program is offered in Denver, CO and Salt Lake City, UT.
