Your pregnancy and baby team

When it comes to pregnancy care, experience matters. Our providers bring a wealth of knowledge and heartfelt dedication to deliver the best possible care.

OB-GYNs, or obstetrician-gynecologists, are highly-trained doctors who care for women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the recovery period following birth. They can also perform cesarean sections for scheduled or emergency situations.

Certified nurse-midwives provide gynecologic and low-risk prenatal care. At Intermountain Health, they also deliver babies in our hospitals or birth centers, giving you the safe and supported birth experience you desire. *Some services, like CNMs, are not offered at all locations. Look to see if there is a midwife clinic near you.
Family practitioners are primary care doctors who treat a wide range of medical conditions. In addition to their expertise in general family health, some choose to specialize in obstetrics. They can take care of you during and after your pregnancy.
If you have a high-risk pregnancy, your OB-GYN will work with doctors called maternal-fetal medicine specialists to make sure you and your baby get the advanced care you need.
Choosing the right doctor for your baby is an important decision. You'll be visiting your baby’s physician at least six times in the first year for routine well-baby visits. While some parents know which doctor they want for their baby right away, others start the search during pregnancy. Making your decision well before your baby is born allows you to make an informed, well-considered choice.

Childbirth education classes (in-person and online)

We have a variety of classes for soon-to-be and new parents to help you prepare for your new arrival. Every lesson is taught by a registered nurse, on topics from birth-basics to breastfeeding to boot camps for new dads.

Schedule a pre-pregnancy exam

A healthy pregnancy begins long before you see those two little lines on your pregnancy test. Set an exam with your provider to go over your personal and family medical history, make sure your immunizations are up-to-date, discuss whether you’re interested in genetic testing and screen for infections including sexually transmitted diseases.

Getting prepared for baby - Insurance FAQs

No matter if you’re four weeks along or coming up on your due date, if you have questions about labor, delivery, or life with a newborn, we’re here for you.

Every insurance plan differs in the coverage they provide for you and your baby. You may want to check whether preauthorization is required, the authorized length of stay, and which testing or procedures are covered. Your insurance carrier also will help you understand your copayments and deductibles.

You generally have 30 days from the date of birth to add your newborn to your primary insurance policy. We’ll let your insurance carrier know if you or your baby stays at the hospital longer due to complications.

Call our pre-registration office, and a financial counselor will help you figure out the best payment options. You may also qualify for financial assistance. Learn more about our financial assistance and charity care.
